Nice little video showing how “hubby” made arm rests for his handmade lampworking bead artist wife.

He saved about 85% off the cost of the pro versions.

Handmade bead artists sometime find that an armrest come in handy. They allow the handmade bead artist to work longer with less fatigue.

Beth Grant demonstrates how she makes decorative homemade glass beads by the lampwork method. (Lampwork beads)

Using a propane torch, she turns different coloured glass rods into multicoloured homemade beads by melting and turning them on a mandrill. The home made beads are further decorated with small bits of glass called frit, and then finished in a kiln.

The finished homemade lampwork beads are used to make jewellery and enhance small items such as pens and paté knives. Beth is based in Orton, Ontario. Recorded during the Hills of Erin studio tour in September 2007.

What material do I use to make them? And what do I seal them with for a glossy look?
Thank you both I will look for the materials.

Hobby Lobby has sculpey clay to use for the formation of your beads and they also have the glossy paint for them. If you will look around the sculpey clay, there is a bead maker that you actually put little balls of clay in and you then move the top of the bead maker back and forth, it rolls the clay to make a perfectly shaped bead. You can make 4 type of beads in one bead maker. They're pretty neat, I used one in bible school this summer for the kids to make beads with.

What kinds of beads are you making?

Many of us who make glass lampwork beads have noticed quite a bit drop in sales on eBay and many have moved to selling on their own site, on Just Beads, the Annealer auction site, and Etsy.

Do your research well. Look at other auctions and what similar items are selling for. Price your items accordingly, but make sure you still get a profit, or at least break even. Don't underprice yourself.

You can sell on Ebay, but if you start don't be discouraged if things don't work out at first. You really have to have a constant presence and build up a reputation.

It doesn't hurt, of course, to have an unusual style, fashionable colors, or very unique items.

But as they say, don't put all your eggs in one basket. If eBay isn't working for you, throw a set up on another auction site, simultaniously. You may end up please with a different site. Or you may do better on a different site. You really need some patience and be strong enough to not have your feelings hurt if something doesn't sell.

Also, don't expect it to be the primary source of income. There are very few beaders who use ebay (or any auction site) as their only means of income. Many are busy year round with auctions, shows, books, competitions, etc.

So, I say, give it a try. If you sell some items, maybe you don't get to retire early, but maybe your hobby will be able to pay for itself.

I need a name suggestions for my WAHM business/website. Just a way to make money in my spare time. I'm hoping to do mostly internet sales.
I make beaded Jewelry. I'm just getting started. I plan to also make other small crafts. I'm starting small. I may branch out into other areas such as sewing crafts or decrotive candle holders, gift baskets ect or I may not ever get around to doing anything but jewelry. Not sure yet. So I need a flexable name. Also will sale 2nd hand things: clothes, cloth diapers, toys ect

DH is giving me money to set up a website . So I need a short name (preferably 20 characters or less) One to 3 words. (nothing with beads or baubles!) My name is Sonita.

You can check out my (current website! LOL) 360 page ( http://360.yahoo.com/noggin_mama… )to see pix of my jewelry to help you get an idea what to call it.

Feel free to throw out several suggestions!

Handmade bead loom bracelets?
Would you pay $150 dollars for one if you liked the style?
They are all handmade from glass beads and sterling silver clasps.
The swarovski crystal bracelets would cost a bit more though also. would you pay that much?
do you think other ppl would?
It would be a great loss to sell them for much less.

I need to see pix before i can say.

I create wire bracelets, earrings, rings and necklace sets.
I create wire jewelry that a business woman and man could wear, yet I enjoy making jewelry for children and young adults. My pieces are elegant, sophisticated and affordable. I want my business name to express how each created piece will enhance the beauty of the individual. When people see my jewelry they will say "I must have it."

All Wired Up.

I am looking for resources and or information on handmade flowers. I am particularly interested in ganutell, mini flowers made from clay and french or victorian beaded flowers. I have some books but I am looking for someone who lives in my area to share ideas with or to learn together. I live in southern Delaware. Any information would be appreciated, any links for classes or training or etc. Thank you.

This page at my site has lots of lessons on making small 3-D or bas relief flowers from polymer clay if you want to check it out:
